DDA allows apartment owners to form association

Conceding a long-standing demand of apartment owners, the Delhi Development Authority has decided to let the owners of multi-storey buildings to form Apartment Owners’ Association under the Delhi Apartment Ownership Act. The association shall take over the management from promoters/builders.
“All the apartment owners of the various multi-storeyed buildings are required to form an Apartment Owners’ Association under the Act which shall take over the management from the Promoters/ Builders,” an official statement from the DDA read.
“This Association will be responsible for all the functions relating to the management of the building, common area, collection of maintenance charges, expenditure to be incurred on maintenance, employment of manpower, legal compliance etc. After the completion of construction work, the builder will also hand over all the books of accounts, bank accounts and other documents to the Apartment Owners’ Association,” the statement added.
It is also emphasised that under the Act all promoters/builders/developers are required to execute the deed of apartment and in case, they fail to do so, the apartment owners can apply to the concerned Nodal Officer for execution of deed of apartment in accordance with the law as per format prescribed.
